Blog Post #10

While working on Assignment 5: Powerpoint Interaction, I acquired a lot of new skills. The main one being the navigation buttons. This made the powerpoint way more interactive. I liked playing with this tools to create a math game. The only issue I faced was without the click to change slides, the animations I put on my images never popped up since I never clicked to change slides. Overall, I really enjoyed getting to play with all the powerpoint features, as before I never really tried them.

I think I will use data collection tools like surveys for many reasons in my future classroom. I feel like hearing feedback directly from students is the best way to assess your teaching. Student feedback is a great way to enhance your teaching as the students learning is the most important factor. I think this is better for older grades like middle school and high school. This way they can understand the surveys and give effective feedback. I personally have done surveys for my teachers and I try to give them good feedback so they can improve as a teacher.

A technology related skill I would like to learn next is excel. I am excited to start using it in the next assignment. This is a tool that is useful in future careers, as it helps you stay organized. It also is a great tool to collect data and calculate numbers. I think the smart goal, measurable, accurately describes the tool excel. This is because it can record and measure data.

In my experience with distance learning, I have enjoyed it in certain circumstances. During COVID, distance learning was very present, as we all had to quarantine at first. Now that COVID is over, I now enjoy distant learning still in college. I think for some writing classes it's easier to understand virtually. I have experienced a lot of technologies through this such as zoom, remind, canvas and more. I can't think of any I didn't experience, as if I didn't experience them I haven't heard or been exposed to them.

I enjoyed browsing through the OER resources. I specifically searched for resources for special education teachers. I specifically picked a resource that talked about the history of special education and some of the laws and processes behind it. Since special education has been around so long, there has been a lot of procedures and policies that have changed to get special education to where it is today. This includes laws like No Child Left Behind, IDEA and plans like IEP's. I picked a website by CITE journal that explores the science resources on OER. It talks about how free science resources have been of been a focus of research.

While working on Assignment 4: Powerpoint for Information Dissemination, I learned a lot of new ways to use powerpoint. The main one being the the voiceover recording feature. I will continue to use this feature in my future teaching career, as online learning is a huge part of our future. Any lessons can be recorded via digitally, which is why this feature was so important to use and learn. I liked being able to add transitions and animations. I have never played with all those powerpoint features until this assignment.

I acquired many new skills after completing the web design assignment. I learned how to add maps, as well as being able to add my social media links. I used design principles like CRAAP to stay clear and appealing to my audience. I used these when choosing fonts, colors and format. I liked the way the requirements and additional skill points encouraged us to add more to our website, as well as trying new features in weebly.

A creative way I could use QR codes in my classroom is by linking a QR code to my website on parent letters, to make sure the students and parents stay on track with what is needed and expected throughout the year. If I was teaching older grades, I could link the syllabus onto a QR code, or a school supply list. I feel like QR codes are a easy tool to link class information on, especially with how much of the younger generation uses technology in the classroom. Having access to information on your phone can be more useful, as sometimes students don't keep track of papers handed out to them.

A case study I found touches on ethics for technology use in the classroom. I believe this case is a ethical issue because it talks about complexities of ethics in Kindergarten classrooms with technology. It says how most children are using some type of device before entering school. The issue is no one prepares them for cyberbullying or copyright and plagiarism issues. I believe this is a ethical issue because parents will sometimes throw technology at kids at such a young age, without giving them restrictions or teaching them how to use technology properly. This causes lasting issues in education, as some students will use technology negatively in the classroom.

I think teachers having school pages can be beneficial. This can be for communication purposes, as a teacher page can communicate contact information, deadlines and more. They could also use these pages to organize class resources. When browsing other teacher pages, I saw things like important dates to remember, as well as a introduction video. I think these pages would be helpful for parents to keep organized and informed. https://www.leonschools.net/site/Default.aspx?PageID=5903

I envision myself using technology to organize and plan out my professional responsibilities. In college, I love using google Calendar to stay organized. It organizes all my upcoming events and assignments, as well as sending out reminders before the scheduled event. Using technology like this allows me to stay organized and punctual.  I also like using my notes app to remember important tasks.

When working with my canvas group, I liked being able to customize the page with different themes. This allowed us to personalize our page to best appeal to our crowd. It was hard trying to communicate with our group members who weren't in class, as we weren't all on the same page. Despite communication issues, it was very cool to see the backside of creating canvas pages. Overall, I enjoyed the group canvas tool as it was a great way to learn how to use canvas from a teachers view.

Blog Post #6

With blogging, I haven't had much experience. I have never had my own personal blog until this class. I really like how we have done this blog so far, as I think it would be a great way to build your personal learning network, as well as getting out any information you want to share. I have learned how to navigate a blog website, as well as how to respond to others blog posts. I also have enjoyed how we got to pick out the theme of our blogs, as you can get really creative when designing these.

An interesting Web 2.0 tool that I will use when teaching is Google Docs. I would use this tool to help me plan lessons, take notes and pretty much anything I need to write down. Google docs helps me stay organized, and it automatically saves. I prefer it over Word, as it is free and very accessible. I think I will implement this tool into my teaching routine.

Working with AI, I have had many positive experiences. I have used it to help me get over brain blocks, where I can't think of anything to start an essay or project. It worked really well when I had to come up with 4 artifacts for my english essay. I was stuck on what to come up with and it gave me so many ideas. It doesn't always give accurate information when asking for direct information from readings, videos, etc.

I imagine using AI in my future teaching career by using it to help me brainstorm ideas. In the classroom, you want to keep it fun and interesting for your students. AI is the perfect tool to help come up with group work, class activities and so much more. I can definitely see myself using it whenever I am stuck in a brain block. I also can use it to structure worksheets and tests. The nice thing about AI is the possibilities are endless. I would address ethical concerns by making sure I don't copy and paste directly. It is a good tool for creating ideas, but not doing it all for you.
