I picked standard SC.912.TI.1.7. This standard is about evaluating ways in which technology can improve accessibility for students with disabilities. I interpret this standard as a way to get accommodations for students who need extra help. I feel prepared to implement this into my classroom as a special education teacher because having technology is a great learning tool, and making it accessible to all students would be very beneficial. I think this standard would be necessary to have technology in my classroom.
The tool i picked from CPALMS educator toolkit was ELA.K12.EE.6.1. I picked the tool where teachers know how to decipher between formal and informal language. This includes using appropriate tone when speaking to your students. I think this is very important especially when teaching younger students, because you want there to be boundaries in language and tone. Some would call it a "teacher voice" to remain appropriate in front of your students.
When it comes to browsing the internet, it is important to have efficient internet searching skills. It is crucial because as a teacher, you need to make sure the resources you are using with your students are age appropriate. With the skills I learned this week, the most important skill I learned was the knowledge on licensing and copyright. As a teacher you reuse a lot of existing lesson plans, artwork and more, so it is important you are using accessible resources.
When it comes to AI in education, I believe it can be a great resource as well as a negative tool. When using it correctly, you can spark new ideas, expand vocabulary, make self-assessments and more. When using it incorrectly, you can have AI write content for you, find answers unauthentically and more. As a K-12 student, I think AI is a great tool when used correctly, but a majority of students these ages abuse it massively.
I appreciate your choice of standard SC.912.TI.1.7; focusing on how technology can enhance accessibility for students with disabilities is vital. As a special education teacher, your commitment to making technology inclusive will foster a supportive learning environment. Your selection of ELA.K12.EE.6.1 is equally important, as understanding formal and informal language helps maintain respectful communication with younger students. I agree that efficient internet searching skills are essential, especially regarding licensing and copyright for appropriate resources. Your perspective on AI is well-rounded; it can be a valuable tool for creativity when used correctly, but it’s crucial to teach students about its limitations and the importance of authentic engagement.
